Hummer Off-Road Driving AdventureWhen you arrive your instructor will give you a full Hummer introduction, detailing the special features of the Hummer and how to use them. You'll look under the bonnet at the mighty race engine and learn about features such as tyre inflation and deflation, ground clearance, diff locks and traction control. Unlike the smaller H2 and H3 Hummers, our full-sized H1 Hummers are fitted with HUGE 6.5 litre V8 engines and can tow more than 4 tonne! Next you'll jump into the driver's seat and drive the Hummer around the sand dunes at Lancelin. Your instructor sits in the passenger seat and communicates with you via military headsets, giving you guidance and encouragement to ensure you push the Hummer to its limits! You'll learn how to deflate and inflate the tyres while you are actually driving, you'll get to lift the Hummer's wheels off the ground while climbing difficult terrain, and you'll learn about the Hummer's ability to drive on four flat tyres at 50km/h for 60km! You'll even get the Hummer stuck in the sand then drive straight out using the Hummer traction control system! As you drive the H1 Hummer up and down sand dunes that would rip the front bumper off a normal 4WD, you'll appreciate the Hummer's steep 72-degree approach angle, huge 37 inch tyres, mid-mounted engine and enormous ground clearance. And at the end of your driving experience you will have a photo session with the Hummer so you can show off to your mates. If you weren't a Hummer fan before you started driving, you definitely will be now! | Showing Items 1 to 10 of 22 | |
What is Zorbing?
It is no surprise that the unofficial home of extreme sports is responsible for created zorbing.
New Zealand duo Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Akers designed the zorb in 1994.
A zorb is a spherical ball made from plastic, usually PVC. Zorbs can reach up to 3 and half metres in diametre.
There are two main types of zorbs. People can be suspended inside the zorb via a number of straps or in hydro zorbs where the inside is filled with water.
Once inside the zorb, it is rolled down a hill and zorbonauts experience the thrill of spinning around during the journey.
One of the biggest zorbing areas is in Rotura, New Zealand. The sport has grown and can be found across Australia, the United Kingdom, America, Norway, China, Czech Republic and Argentina. © MAS 2007
Zorbing Records
An early zorbing record of distances travelled in a a single roll was 353 yds or 323 metres by Rich Eley in England on 10 May 1999. The ball reached a speed of 31 miles per hour or 50 kilometres an hour.
However, on 11 November 2006 the records tumbled in New Zealand. As part of a Guinness World Record day, both the speed and distance records were beaten at the same location in Rotura.
A local policeman assessed the speed of the Keith Rolver inside the zorb at 52 kilometres an hour with his radar gun.
In a separate attempt, the distance record was smashed when Steve Camp rolled an amazing 570 metres. © MAS 2007
