4WD Tour Full Day Moreton IslandOur Tour starts with a luxury cruise aboard MiCat across beautiful Moreton Bay to Moreton Island. On arrival we board our 4WD and drive of the ferry directly on to the beach. Moreton Island is the worlds third largest sand island of which 98% is a protected National Park, with no sealed roads, 4WD is the only mode of transport! Our first activity is to get straight into sand boarding and tobogganing. This has to be done as early as possible in the day as summer temperatures get up to 36deg. This is awesome fun, high speed, high adrenalin! Moreton Bay Escapes provide both lie down toboggans as well as stand up boards. Next stop we cross the island to the Open Beach. We travel through thick eucalypt forest, featuring beautiful Zantharea (Grass Trees) up to 250 years old. The open beach is 38km long of uninterrupted surf beach. Boogy Boarding and body surfing is next! We are off to North Point and Honeymoon Bay's secluded beach with great safe surf beaches. After a picnic lunch we are off to Cape Moreton Lighthouse and Information centre. This imposing rock Headland is 80m above sea level and gives us commanding views across all of Moreton Island and the beautiful Glass House Mountains. Look out to sea and spot Dolphins, Turtles and Whales (June To October). Moreton Island is home to hundreds of different birds, featuring White Bellied Sea Eagles, Pied Oyster Catchers, Pelicans and thousands of wadding birds. Our last stop is Blue Lagoon, one of Moreton Island's beautiful fresh water lakes. Take a dip and soak up the naturally occurring tea tree oils (the fountain of youth) Once rejuvenated to return to MiCat for our beautiful cruise home. What a day! Tour includes, Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea and Picnic Lunch, All activities and all National Park fees Abseiling At Kangaroo PointAbseiling is the ultimate adrenalin rush. Unlike other extreme activities where you only get one go, you can abseil lots of times in one session. Most people get 8 to 10 jumps during a session. Abseiling is FUN, EASY and RELAXING but we agree it's not a natural thing to do so our instructors are skilled in helping you to become relaxed and familiar with the equipment, safety requirements and safe abseiling techniques. Each session follows our proven outline of: * safety brief * equipment familiarity * demonstration of techniques (by the instructor) * practice abseils * belay training * as many abseils on the main cliffs as you can fit in. Abseiling is literally safer than crossing the road. To ensure your safety, we adhere to high safety standards. Also, everyone is 'belayed' (a way of preventing you from falling to the ground) on every abseil. Please note:We can cater for all levels of experience from beginner to advanced. Abseiling and Rockclimbing in the Cataract Gorge Full Day - TasmaniaEarly settler William Collins said of Cataract Gorge that its beauty "is probably not surpassed in the world". Well, we're inclined to agree. The Cataract Gorge is located right in the middle of the city where the South Esk River cuts a spectacular gorge to join the North Esk River forming the Tamar River in central Launceston. And it's a climbers paradise, too – there are as many as 300 climbs in the lower gorge as far as the first basin, and a further 550 climbs in the 6km to the Trevallyn Dam, making it Tasmania's most concentrated climbing area. The routes provide crack and face climbing on good quality dolerite, mostly naturally protected but also with an ever increasing selection of bolted routes. Though the climbs are short (5-25m), their accessibility make them a must visit for any climbing trip. Uniquely, the climbs are all a short walk from the centre of town – a welcome change from long drives to more remote climbing sites.Which climb you do will be judged according on the ability of your group. Your instructors are pioneers of climbing in the area, each with between 25 and 35 years' experience scaling the Cataract Gorge. Clients meet their guides at the Penny Royal World Gunpowder Mill Car Park on Paterson St, Launceston and make their way by foot into Cataract Gorge. Your guide will go over a range of safety procedures with you and teach you some basic knot tying skills and if the climb calls for it some abseiling skills. The first section of the tour is usually spent abseiling before moving onto climbing. Your guides will provide feedback to you to improve your technique throughout the day, and give you a solid foundation in the basics. There's time to relax and enjoy the scenery too, so definitely bring a compact camera to take some pictures while you're up there. Lunch and snacks throughout the day are included. After the climb, it's a short walk back to Launceston where you hand back your equipment and receive a de-brief on the day &ndash Abseiling and Rockclimbing in the Cataract Gorge Half Day - TasmaniaEarly settler William Collins said of Cataract Gorge that its beauty "is probably not surpassed in the world". The History of Rally Driving
As with most motor sports, the origins of rallying are in Europe.
Rallying differs from most motor sport as it doesn't involve racing on a circuit but from one point to another. These intervals are known as stages. Usually cars travel individually and race the clock and not other cars on the circuit.
Rally events developed considerably after the Monte Carlo Rally in January 1911. However, there were earlier races conducted in the late 1800s. City to city races were held in France, Italy and in 1900 Britain joined other countries.
The aspects of these races such as individual starting times for drivers and a number of stages to complete is what inspired many of the components of modern rallying.
Rally had many international and annual events in the second decade of the 1900s. Many of these continued but the outbreak of World War I and World War II stopped the sport developing to its potential.
A post war Monte Carlo Rally rejuvenated the sport and remains a part of the World Rally Championships today.
In the 1950s, the sport grew into Africa and to North and South America. The bigger continents had vast expanses of roads and this led to drivers racing on streets and dirt tracks.
Technology and advancement in motor vehicle production has led to cars being built specifically for rallying.
The sport requires talented drivers, navigators and mechanics to perform successfully in some of the roughest and toughest terrain on the planet.
The World Rally Championships now has stages on most continents and some believe is the second most popular form of motor sport after Formula One.
Some of the most popular world events are:
- Acropolis Rally in Greece
- Circuit of Ireland Rally
- Corona Rally Mexico
- Dakar Rally (actually a rally raid, not a rally as described here)
- Donegal International Rally (Ireland)
- Expedition Trophy in Russia from Murmansk to Vladivostok
- Jordan Rally in Jordan
- Monte Carlo Rally to Monte Carlo, Monaco
- Neste Rally Finland in Finland
- Olympus Rally in Washington, USA
- Rally Argentina
- Rally New Zealand
- RAC Rally in the UK (also known as Wales Rally Great Britain)
- Rally Internacional dos Sertes in Brazil
- Rally of Turkey
- Ha'il Rally in Ha'il, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Rally of Poland
- Rallye de Portugal
- Rallye des Pharaons in Egypt
- Safari Rally
- San Remo Rally in San Remo, Italy
- Sandblast Rally in South Carolina, USA

Many countries have their own domestic rally championships and the sport attracts huge sponsorship. There are regional, national and international organisations that govern the sport. © MAS 2007
The Role of the Navigator
The navigator in rally is sometimes forgotten about. The role is crucial if a team is to be successful.
Navigator's have been known as the secretary of the car.
Their main role is to inform the driver of what is approaching so the driver can perform to the best of his ability. The navigator reads a map of the route and relays important information to the driver.
The information can include any hazards, the style of a bend or turn to ensure the driver isn't surprised and therefore misinterpret a corner and crash the vehicle.
There are a number of internationally recognised courses that can train someone to become a rally navigator. © MAS 2007
