Parasail Port Stephens - Tandem

Parasailing is perfect for everyone - from the timid to the adrenalin charged junkie. The experience begins as you step onboard and you will receive a short briefing from your flight instructor. When it's your turn to parasail, you and your friend will be secured in a safety harness sitting one infront of the other, where we'll use the latest hydraulic technology to release you on and off the vessel. From the platform of the speed boat the two of you are gently winched into the sky, reaching a maximum height of approximately 100 meters. So just sit back, relax and enjoy the amazing view. The choice is yours as to whether you would like to stay dry or take a dip. Observe the marine life as Port Stephens is resident to approximately 80 dolphins - so whether you are in the air or enjoying the boat ride, the dolphins seem just out of reaching distance. Their grace and playfulness is stunning and the sounds are mesmerising. At the completion of your 8-10 minute flight you will be winched back onto the boat platform. The safest way to parasail is by landing on the boat's platform. When not in flight, you will enjoy an exciting boat ride whilst others take their turn.

When it is your turn to parasail, you will be secured into a safety harness. From the platform of a speedboat you and your colourful ballooning parachute will be winched up to 150m into the air! All you have to do is relax and enjoy the amazing view! Looking down, you will see Port Stephens from a rare and fascinating angle. Port Stephens is home to about 160 bottlenose dolphins that can be seen at any time of the year. These dolphins take great delight in riding the bow waves of the motor cruiser, playing and frolicking gracefully through the water. Parasailing For Two - Sydney

Parasailing on Sydney Harbour is a unique way to experience the Harbour and its surrounds. Better still, you don't need any experience. To embark on this unique experience from Manly Wharf, you will board the parasailing boat. While cruising out onto the water, each parasailor is briefed on how to get the most out of your experience and then it's time to kit up. Whilst you stand on the platform of the parasail boat, your winch operator will deploy the parasail and connect your harness. Now you're ready to launch. From the platform you and your friend are gently winched into the skies above Sydney Harbour on a 150 metre towline. Your maximum height from the water will be 100 metres. All that is required of you is to relax and enjoy the view! For a little added excitement, you can choose to be dipped in the water. The choice to get wet or stay dry is all yours! At the completion of your 8-10 minute ride you will be winched onto the boat platform once again. Tandem parasail adventures are available for you and a friend. There is a maximum of 5 rides per hour meaning your time on the boat will vary from 30-60 minutes depending on how many people are flying.

Parasailing Solo - Gold Coast

Parasailing is an exciting and unique way to see the Gold Coast. Parasailing combines the sheer joy of soaring in the sky one hundred metres above the Gold Coast skyline and the sensation of flying horizontally over the sea through the clear blue sky! The experience begins with a short briefing from your instructor as your boat motors out from Mariners Cove Marina. When it's your turn to parasail, you will be harnessed up to either a solo or a tandem parasail (depending on the conditions of the day). From the platform of the launch vessel you are gently winched into the skies above the Gold Coast, your maximum height from the water will be 100 metres. All that is required of you is to relax and enjoy the view! At the completion of your 10 minute ride you will be winched back onto the boat platform. This 'cable/winch deck landing' is the safest way to parasail.

History of Parasailing

Most people would have seen parasailing at some stage in their life. Tourist destinations on the coastlines across the world have cashed in on a sport that had a very simple beginning.

In the 1960s, a parachute teacher named Pierre Lamoigne needed a cost effective method to demonstrate and the use of a parachute. He ingeniously attached a parachute to back of his car and drove at speeds that that raised the pilot into the air. Once airborne, the parachute would be disconnected from the vehicle and pilots could practice their descent.

The Pioneer Parachute Company saw the benefits to this and obtained the exclusive rights to this practice. With this, parasailing was born.

In the 1970s, Mark McCulloh took this method to the sea. He raised parachutes behind a boat and the interest and participation in the sport grew tremendously.

Since this time, specifically designed parachutes, boats and safety equipment have transformed the former teaching method into a very popular recreational sport, particularly for holidaying families.

The military also use parasailing when training troops for sea rescues.

Today, there are competitions and associations across the globe to cater for parasailing enthusiasts.

Fun For the Whole Family

Parasailing is an activity the whole family can enjoy. Operators can usually offer tandem flights and some even offer parachutes that can hold three people.

The usually flying height is between 500 - 1000 feet. The world's largest parasail can be found in the Virgin Islands in the United States and is operated by Caribbean Watersports.

In April 2007, an 87 year old man from Indian took a flight and by doing so, may have created a new world record.
