Aerobatics can be tailored to your preference and you can also change your mind mid flight if you find the manoeuvres either too gentle or a little too extreme.

Aerobatic Fighter Bomber T28 Trojan 40 Minute Flight - Hunter Valley

The T-28 Trojan is a World War II style Fighter Plane. Appreciate the rugged power of a T-28 Trojan Fighter Bomber in this Warbird flight lasting approximately 40 minutes chock to chock. The aircraft you will be flying in was built in 1948, she saw service in Vietnam and has numerous patches on her bodywork from enemy attacks but she is solid and sturdy and couldn't be taken down. The Trojan is powered by the massive Wright Cyclone radial engine producing 1425 horse power and capable of speeds of up to 400 km per hour. On arrival you will be suited up and given your pre-flight briefing. After an inspection of the aircraft and a briefing on the flight controls you will be ready for take-off. Departing from Cessnock airport, your scenic flight path will be east, then follow the coastline north to Newcastle Beach. During this part of your flight you will have the option to perform some graceful warbird style aerobatic manoeuvres over the beach. Continue up to Newcastle harbour taking in the scenic views of some of Australia's famous surf beaches, then onto the Lower Hunter Valley, landing back at Cessnock airport. This flight highlights the stark contrasts of the coastal and rural landscapes of which this region is famous for. You will need to allow at least 1½ hours for the whole experience. Flying in this warbird will bring you closer to experiencing life as a fighter bomber pilot. Chock-to-chock is an aviation term referring to the time that the wheels commence rolling on the tarmac, to the moment they stop upon landing.

Aerobatic Flight

This is a 1.25 hour personal Yak-52 Adventure Experience. Beginning with a full pre-mission briefing both in and out of the cockpit including safety briefing and cockpit familiarisation as well as a discussion and demonstration of aerobatic manoeuvres that will be performed during your flight. You can expect 45 minutes engine time with 35 minutes spent airborne. For the duration of the flight you will be sitting in the back seat of the aircraft, behind the pilot. After your flight there will be a Sortie debrief. Free digital photos will be taken of your adventure and provided to you on CD. The Yak-52 was originally built as a tandem 2 seat primary training aircraft for the Russian Airforce to train their pilots, they quickly made a name for themselves as an extremely manoeuvrable aerobatic aeroplane. With a maximum speed of 194 knots and G limits of +7 and -5 the Yak-52 provides a unique adventure flight experience suitable for all levels of flyer from the timid to the most adventurous. The History of Aerobatics

The sport of aerobatics gained momentum after the First World War. It was at this time that the aviation industry expanded. With new technology planes became more powerful and dynamic.

The creator of aerodynamics is credited to Adolphe Pgoud. In 1913, Pgoud was parachuting. During his descent, he noticed his Bleriot XI plane do a loop. A couple of days later Pgoud's plane successfully completed a loop, this time he was in the pilot's seat. It was at this point aerobatics was born.

After World War I, many military pilots returned to their home countries and demonstrated their flying skills. An improvement in technology meant planes could fly for longer periods and also had more ability to conduct more complex movements.

In 1934, the French Aero Club conducted the first world championships. Six countries were represented by nine pilots. Unfortunately, three of them died after accidents. The French Aero Club also conducted female championships called the Coupe Feminine.

The eruption of World War II saw an end to competitive aerobatics. It wasn't until the Lockheed Trophy was established in 1955, that aerobatics was revived. Since this time, the sport has grown and there are national and international championships held every year.   © MAS 2007

The World Air Sports Federation

The Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), or the World Air Sports Federation was founded in 1905.

The FAI is responsible for the rules and controls on aeronautical records and sporting events. Within the FAI, each discipline of aeronautical sport has its own Commission. Each Commission regulates its own competitions.

The World Air Games will be held in Turin, Italy in June 2009. The World Air Games is the marquee event of air sport. This multi-disciplinary event is the only official competition that brings together the various different air sports. It is a combination of elite competition and spectacular demonstrations which exemplify the very best that air sports have to offer.   © MAS 2007
